Real-World Results

The 2025 independently verified field study was conducted to validate the performance of the Big Bubble Circulation Pump in a real-world lake environment and to better understand how it complements traditional small-bubble diffuser systems commonly used in pond and lake aeration.

Testing was conducted at a 10-acre private lake in Gordonville, Texas. Data was collected using fixed-position PME miniDOT loggers, a DJI Mavic 3 Thermal drone, and a Coda Octopus Echoscope 3D sonar.

Cold Water Circulation

Thermal drone video shows a large region with uniform pink and blue colder lower oxygen bottom water being spread horizontally across the warmer surrounding surface water. The consistent coloration suggests low thermal variability and stable cooling conditions.

The Piston Effect

3D underwater sonar imaging confirms a narrow vertical bubble column (~2 ft diameter) with minimal side-entrainment.

The large sequential rising bubbles draft cold water upward where it lifts above the surface and then collapses. This "piston effect" converts vertical displacement into strong horizontal circulation.

Fixed-Position Multimeters

PME miniDOT dissolved oxygen and temperature loggers were continuously operated while mounted on instrument poles positioned at various distances from the Big Bubble Circulation Pump.

Each pole held 2-4 miniDOT loggers spaced along a 16-ft vertical profile for consistent multi-depth data collection.

Wide-Area Dissolved Oxygen Increases

A uniform dissolved oxygen increase was recorded across all monitored sites (from ~4-5 to ~5-7 mg/L) indicating broad horizontal oxygenationation via atmospheric surface gas exchange. 

Thermal Layers Preserved

Bottom temperature remained stable (69–70°F) indicating consistent wide-area
increases in dissolved oxygen without altering the thermal structure.
The Big Bubble Circulation Pump creates significant horizontal surface movement and agitation which promotes atmospheric oxygen absorption over a wide area without vertically mixing the water column.
